We believe in showing our working. This page explains where our data comes from and, just as importantly, what it cannot tell you.
Where the data comes from
Buyer Directory: HMRC’s monthly Importer Details publication (uktradeinfo), matched to Companies House records and enriched by our team.
Duty figures: the GOV.UK Trade Tariff and the published India-UK CETA tariff schedules.
All official data is used under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
What the data can and cannot show
It shows which UK companies import within a product category. It does not show exact shipment volumes or values.
Some importers opt out of publication, so no dataset is complete.
Official importer data typically lags by around six weeks.
Any vendor claiming to sell “live UK shipment records” is offering something the UK government does not publish.
Our estimates
Where we estimate savings or market size, we label the figure as an estimate and state the assumption (for example, a stated annual shipment value). Duty Saver results are indicative and should be confirmed with a customs professional before contracting.
